Teambuilding
People often get to know each other better and build strong bonds in new and unusual circumstances. These experiences help bring out an individual's commitment and team spirit. Sailing together in a limited space and dependent upon the power of the sea provides the perfect environment to build these bonds through a shared experience.
Most of the habits and routines of daily life are completely different on board a boat. Sharing limited resources such as fresh water and electricity and dealing with technical challenges means that everyone has to adapt to a new way of life. Sails and rigging need more than one person to handle them. Sailing is teamwork.
A three or four-day team building program consists of a number of elements. Previous sailing experience is not necessary.
On the first day the skipper gives an introduction to sailing and points out the rules that every crew member has to follow. This includes:
- Security
- Roles (navigation, helm, robes)
- Watches
- Food
- Daily routines
It is vital for the security and smooth running of the boat that these rules are accepted and respected. Each crew member has a valuable part to play to ensure the success of the whole team. The excitement of sailing through the night also makes this trip an unforgetable experience for everyone.
